The ceramic painting

What is
Touga?

Born in Arita, a town renowned for Japanese porcelain,
Touga is a painting made entirely in ceramic.

Layers of glaze and color are painted onto a ceramic panel and fired repeatedly. Color, light and depth become part of the ceramic itself.

Working from your photographs, a YAEGAMA artist paints each portrait by hand—from the light in the eyes to the direction of the fur and the expression you remember.

Color & light

Lasting
color and radiance.

An everyday photograph becomes a portrait that holds their presence. Through repeated painting and firing, Touga develops luminous color and quiet depth. As light moves across its surface, subtle expressions appear—bringing treasured memories gently back into view.

As the light moves, the colors reveal new expressions.

COLOR FIRED INTO CERAMIC

Layering colorand expression on ceramic.

Sketching, painting and firing. The artist builds the portrait little by little, studying the light in the eyes, the sheen of the nose and the natural flow of the fur.

01

Painted and fired,
again and again

Each new layer returns to the kiln. With every firing, the colors fuse with the panel, creating ceramic clarity and depth.

02

Small expressions,
revealed by light

Glaze and layered color respond to the direction of light. The eyes and fur reveal different expressions throughout the day.

Pet portrait · Touga

A ceramic portrait
of a beloved companion.

This site is for those who have said goodbye to a beloved pet. From your photographs, we hand-paint their bright eyes, soft coat and familiar expression as a Touga ceramic portrait.

When you glance at the portrait, the light in their eyes may bring back the joy of meeting them and the happy days you shared. We hope Touga becomes a quiet way to keep those memories close.
